When the sky is lit up by the Perseids in August, the Val Pusteria/Pustertal valley becomes the stage for a truly sparkling spectacle. Discover the most beautiful spots for watching shooting stars!
The most sparkling time of the year
A mild summer’s evening, a gentle breeze, and shooting stars lighting up the sky: August is the perfect time to look up at the sky and admire the expanse of stars above the Val Pusteria/Pustertal valley. You can watch this natural spectacle whilst enjoying a night-time stroll or from a quiet vantage point, far from any distracting light sources.
The spectacle will reach its peak around
St Lawrence’s Day (The night of shooting stars). On the night between 12 and 13 August, the Perseids will streak across the sky in great numbers. On these nights, the chances of a wish coming true are particularly high – provided, of course, that it isn’t revealed. We, on the other hand, will reveal the
most beautiful spots from which to gaze at the enchanting starry sky.
A front-row seat
In summer, the most beautiful evening spectacle takes place right up in the sky. The
Stalle/Staller mountain pass, in the
Anterselva/Antholz valley, at an altitude of 2,052 metres, offers a front-row seat for this natural spectacle. You can reach it via the pass road, which is normally open from mid-May to the end of October as a one-way route, regulated 24 hours a day by traffic lights. Once you’ve reached the top, all you need to do is find a cosy spot on the grass, spread out your picnic blanket, and look up at the sky.
The
“Acht Kircher/Otto Chiese” viewpoint in Oberolang also promises breathtaking views. The hill, also known locally as “Preinbichl”, offers a beautiful view of Olang and large parts of the Val Pusteria/Pustertal valley, and can be reached on foot in about ten to fifteen minutes from the starting point at the Chill Area Stocker.
Important: before setting off, we recommend checking the weather conditions, road conditions, and whether your chosen viewpoint is accessible at night. This way, your experience will not only be unforgettable but also safe.
When your balcony becomes your observatory
A refreshing drink, a quick snack, and a cosy spot on the balcony: you don’t need to leave your accommodation to enjoy an unforgettable evening under the stars. If your holiday apartment is slightly outside the village centre and has a balcony, terrace, or garden, then you’ve hit the jackpot: your
front-row seat is right at your fingertips. In the private accommodation offered by südtirol hosts in the Val Pusteria/Pustertal valley, you’ll find options to suit every need. So, your first wish has already come true. Who knows what else the night of shooting stars has in store for you?
