Silence is one of the most precious forms of luxury. At the Garni Residence Alnö in St. Vigil in Enneberg, it has a house number: number nine on Strada al Plan Dessora. That is precisely where the name comes from, as “Alnö” means both “number nine” and “the new one” in Ladin. Built in 2023, this property – constructed almost entirely from regional timber and reserved for adults aged 14 and over – is situated in the heart of the Ladin Dolomites, at the foot of Mt Plan de Corones/Kronplatz.
Silence and tranquillity become tangible as soon as you arrive. Alnö combines the freedom of a self-catering residence with the amenities of a four-star bed and breakfast: stylish rooms, spacious apartments for two to four people and the exclusive suite, plus daily cleaning, and an honesty bar stocked round the clock with South Tyrolean wines, snacks, and regional specialities.
In the morning, the aroma of fresh bread wafts through the breakfast room: produce from local farms, homemade jams, speck, fruit, and delicious desserts are laid out on the buffet, with gluten-free and lactose-free alternatives available on request. You can book breakfast in advance or add it on the spot at an extra cost. Ulrich Videsott, a qualified chef and passionate host, pours your coffee himself and is always up for a chat.
In the afternoon, the focus shifts to relaxation. In the heated outdoor pool with a counter-current system, you can swim lap after lap against the backdrop of the Erta slope, whilst the outdoor hot tub soothes your muscles. Inside, the Finnish herbal sauna, the infrared cabin, and the heated relaxation bench ensure complete relaxation. Afterwards, stretch out on a lounger in the relaxation area, enjoy a glass of spring water from Mt Piz da Peres, and take in the impressive view of the rock faces in the evening light.
All around lies the outdoor realm that has made St. Vigil famous. The Fanes-Senes-Braies/Fanes-Sennes-Prags Nature Park basically starts right on your doorstep, walking routes and mountain bike trails begin in the village, and just 300 metres away, the ski lifts take you up to Mt Plan de Corones/Kronplatz and on to the Sellaronda. The ski bus stop is 50 metres away, your ski boots stay warm and dry thanks to the boot dryer in the ski room, and you can store your bikes safely in the lockable bike room with charging facilities.
At Alnö is Ulrich who sets the tone: he knows all the paths to the quiet spots above the village and will share them with you over breakfast, with the serenity of someone who lives their dream every day.
